This morning I left home at 8:00 a.m. in the dark to ride to El Escorial and climb Alto de Abantos. Fall is really starting to be noticeable with the shorter days and cooler temperatures. This is a ride with a lot of rolling hills on the way to El Escorial to make sure that you are well prepared for the climb of Abantos as you can see from the GPS profile below.
The first 2 kilometers coming out of El Escorial are steep and fairly tiring but then you get some rest for about 2 kilometers before 3 more difficult ones to reach Puerto Malagon, after which it is much easier fort the last 2 kilometers to get to Alto de Abantos.
I am posting 2 videos, one of my arrival at the top of Abantos and the second on part of the descent so you can see the condition of the road. This is another ride I did on a mountain bike and I would not recommend this climb on a road bike, there are some very big, deep potholes on this climb and in some places they are impossible to avoid, it would be very easy to break a spoke or completely destroy a wheel.
