Cycling is Life

Today’s stage again started with a little confusion as to where the highway was, but after a 10 km lap around Viviero, I found the right one. One problem seems to be that there is always at least two places with the same name, today they were only two kms apart. The first climb starts with a 10% grade, but is well shaded, so it’s not really hot, but the humidity is extremely high. The best part of the climb was what you see in the video. Afterwards there are fast descents and two more climbs in rapid succession, all the time with the heat increasing and the high humidity. In Vegadeo, there was the town festival in the streets, so there was a detour to return to the highway on the other side of the town, which included an extra bonus climb. After crossing into Asturias, the route follows the coast and there was a very refreshing wind after the heat of the morning, however I had to abandon the stage after 121.83 kms in 4:56:47 because of the increasingly heavy fog.

La etapa de hoy ha comenzado también con un poco de confusión de donde estaba la carretera correcta pero después de una vuelta de 10 km por Viveiro la he encontrado. Uno de los problemas parece ser que hay por lo menos más de un sitio con el mismo nombre, hoy estos sitios estaban solamente a dos km entre ellos. La primera subida comenzó con un 10% de pendiente, pero estaba en sombra por lo que no había mucho calor pero la humedad era extremadamente alta. La mejor parte de la subida es lo que puedes ver en el video. Después hay descensos rápidos y dos subidas muy juntas, todo el tiempo con el calor aumentando y una alta humedad. En Vegadeo había fiestas por lo que habían cortado la carretera y había que rodear el pueblo, lo que incluía una subida extra, para incorporarse otra vez a ella. Después de pasar a Asturias, la ruta sigue la costa y había un viento muy refrescante después del calor de la mañana, sin embargo tuve que abandonar la etapa después de 121.83 km a las 4:56:47 por el aumento de una niebla densa.
